Institute for Work Based Learning, Middlesex University

The Institute for Work Based Learning at Middlesex University is the primary accreditation partner to i-coach academy’s professional programmes. We share the same beliefs about approaches to life-long learning and the socio-economic value of work based learning qualifications. The Institute is a pan-university centre and has had over 2400 students graduate from the its Work Based Learning Studies and Professional Doctorate programmes. The high quality and innovative nature of the Work Based Learning programmes offered by Middlesex University was singled out for commendation as an example of “best practice” by the 2003 UK Quality Assurance Agency institutional review. In 2005 the Higher Education Funding Council for England recognized the current excellence and future potential of work based learning at Middlesex by awarding the University £2.84 million for the development of a “Centre for Excellence in Work Based Learning” as part of a national initiative to recognize excellence and enhance the quality of learning and teaching in higher education.

Also, In 1996 the Centre received a prestigious Queen's Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education for Work Based Learning for its role in integrating formal education and employment. The centre's achievements were acknowledged in a citation:

'This is pioneering work bearing directly upon a vital area of need in all modern economies. It is carried out with vigour and clarity. Its strategy brings obvious benefit to organisations in times of change and reliable qualifications for individuals. It is filling a unique educational function in an imaginative way and attracting international attention.'

Middlesex University

Middlesex University is a modern, dynamic, international institution, with over 24,000 students located on three campuses in North London and at various partner-institutions around the world. With over 250 global partnerships, and more than 5000 students from outside the European Union, Middlesex is one of the most diverse universities in the world.

We believe passionately in the Middlesex mix - where every nationality, culture, age and background is respected and celebrated. Our academic curriculum is constantly revised and updated to reflect our international mission.

Middlesex University's academic programmes are offered in a fully flexible modular framework which allows students the maximum possible choice. In addition, many of our programmes are recognized and accredited by professional bodies, namely Law, Education, Psychology, Marketing and Human Resource Management.

The UK Quality Assurance Agency (the UK government higher education authority) undertook an institutional audit of Middlesex University in 2003 with a highly successful outcome. Middlesex received ratings of "Excellent" in all the subject areas inspected between 2000 and 2003 and the 2001 Research Assessment Exercise confirmed Middlesex as among the top modern UK universities in Research, with many areas of international excellence.

Middlesex is justly proud of the recognition it has gained. It is one of the very few UK universities to have won three successive Queen's Anniversary Awards for Higher and Further Education, and in 2003 we won the Queen's Enterprise Award for International Trade. Thus Middlesex University was judged "by a thorough and demanding process to be, quite simply, among the best of UK companies". In 2005 Middlesex was one of only 15 Universities to be awarded two Centres for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (Mental Health & Social Work and Work Based Learning) by the Higher Education Funding Council for England.
