University of Stellenbosch Business School

University of Stellenbosch Business School (USB), situated in Bellville near Cape Town offers programmes to support the development of management and leadership in South Africa. In September 2005, USB was named the top business school in South Africa by the Professional Management Review (PMR). Apart from its academic programmes, USB has an executive education arm focusing on shorter management and leadership programmes, business seminars and consultancy services.

i-coach academy has been running a two year master's programme in South Africa since 2002 and in 2005 partnered with USB-ED to deliver the first year of this programme. We are also currently working with USB to explore options for a locally accredited masters qualification in coaching. i-coach academy and USB have also established the African Centre for Coaching and Learning to be a centre of expertise for this field in Africa, applying learning to multiple professions supporting the transformation process in South Africa.

University of Stellenbosch Business School - Executive Development

During 2001 the University of Stellenbosch Business School (USB) formed a public company to run its Management and Leadership Development Programmes on a business footing. This company, USB Executive Development Ltd, has a number of shareholders, of which the University of Stellenbosch (US) is the largest, i.e. it has a 60% shareholding. The US confers all certificates for programmes offered by USB-ED, and also guarantees the quality and standard of the programmes. This venture therefore brings USB closer to the business world.

USB (University of Stellenbosch Business School) has been accredited through the European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS) of the European Foundation of Management Development. It is the first business school in Africa and only the second outside of Europe to receive this award. The meaning of this award is that all learning interventions presented by the USB and USB-ED are internationally accredited and acknowledged as being of high quality in Europe alongside business schools such as Ashridge Management College (UK), London Business School, Cranfield University School of Management (UK) and Insead (France).

USB is also the official South African partner of Ashridge Management College. The advantage of this partnership to the USB and USB-ED is that it can draw on the expertise and faculty of one of the top business schools in Europe. USB-ED also presents executive programmes in conjunction with Cranfield University School of Management. This has obvious positive implications for the standard and international stature of the programmes presented by USB-ED.

USB-ED has developed and delivered successful learning interventions for a number of companies such as Telkom, Sasol Mining, Trans Hex Group, Nedcor, Anglo American, Mossgas, Naspers, Toyota, Protekon, De Beers, Sanlam, TANESCO (Tanzania), Kimberly-Clark, Bridgestone Firestone, Chris Hani District Municipality, Eden Municipality, Afgri/OTK, Namport, Sasol Coal, Chevron, Ceres Fruit Juices, SPAR, APL Cartons (Worcester), SA Navy, Dept. of Health (WC), WPK, Volkswagen, Pioneer Foods, Grootte Schuur Hospital, Bosal SA, Vital Health Foods, Provincial Admin.
